1 May 1911
Shortly before the outbreak of World War I, the grandfather of the current owner founded the tank manufacturing company Hugo Schäfer Apparatebauanstalt KG. At that time, the products were still riveted.
The company is the first in the Duisburg area to obtain permission to weld pressure tanks. The first chlorine gas tanks are welded using “powder” of fine-grained structural steels.
After more than thirty years of responsible management, the dynamic founder Hugo Schäfer retires and hands over management of the company to his son Walter Schäfer.
The company is twice completely destroyed by bombing during the Second World War. Walter Schäfer rebuilds the company and constantly expands it.
His sons join the company.
Walter Schäfer passes away. From this point onward, Norbert Schäfer continues to lead the company in its third generation, in accordance with his father’s wishes.
The company splits into HSD-Schäfer GmbH and Hugo Schäfer Apparatebau GmbH & Co. KG. Introduction of ISO 9001.
