History

1 May 1911

Shortly before the outbreak of World War I, the grandfather of the current owner founded the tank manufacturing company Hugo Schäfer Apparatebauanstalt KG. At that time, the products were still riveted.

1930

The company is the first in the Duisburg area to obtain permission to weld pressure tanks. The first chlorine gas tanks are welded using “powder” of fine-grained structural steels.

1941

After more than thirty years of responsible management, the dynamic founder Hugo Schäfer retires and hands over management of the company to his son Walter Schäfer.

1944

The company is twice completely destroyed by bombing during the Second World War. Walter Schäfer rebuilds the company and constantly expands it.

1973

His sons join the company.

1977

Walter Schäfer passes away. From this point onward, Norbert Schäfer continues to lead the company in its third generation, in accordance with his father’s wishes.

1999

The company splits into HSD-Schäfer GmbH and Hugo Schäfer Apparatebau GmbH & Co. KG. Introduction of ISO 9001.

2000

The 75th anniversary of DVS. Development of alternating pressure systems

2006

After completing his business studies and several periods abroad, Daniel Schäfer joins the company as representative of the fourth generation.

2006

Class II factory approval for welded pressure tanks from DNV

2008

The company repositions itself: a building alteration project lasting several months is started, in which both new investments are made and production space is purchased and built. The core processes of bending and welding are further specialised.
